Entry 29th December 2021: Post 1: Cover Disc Disks- The final Formats.

Cover Disc Disks- The final Formats.
Back in May 1999 Amiga Format was treating readers with options
of either CD or old fashioned DD disks. It was around that time
that they started providing copies of the disks in DMS format on
the CD so that readers could create their own copy disks. For my
part I was only interested in the CDs by that time and have very
few actual floppy cover disks post issue 123. The point being
that the floppies were on the CD anyway.

I have been threatening for some time to follow up my review of
the CD discs issued by Amiga Format in those latter years with
a photographic study of the last years of the magazine. Sadly
two issues of my magazine collection are trapped in the mountain
of magazines here and it would take me an age to find them. The
issues being 133 and 135.

Not to be dissuaded from doing something I have chosen to ZIP all
the DMS files of the DD disks for the period Issue 123 to 136,
with 136 being the very last issue of Amiga Format. It is possible
for me to un-dms the files and create floppies and possibly create
ADF images, but seriously those downloading can do that. And so
I have created the DMS files which contain both disks for each
issue. All you have to do is click the magazine cover and it will
wing its way to you.

I also include the software DeCruncherFace which has a GUI for the
process. Otherwise simply download the DMS tool I give away today
and place in the C drawer on your Amiga. I include some other
archivers that can be placed in C. To use DMS from C you open the
CLI and simply place the DMS archive in RAM, and with an empty
floppy in the DF0 just type in

'dms write RAM:T/'name of archive'.dms'

And so af123.dms would read ...

'dms write RAM:T/af123.dms" .... where af123.dms is in RAM:T drawer.

Hope that makes sense.

Anyhoo the disks provided today are probably the last for a while.
Back to boring old photographs tomorrow. Sorry about that.
