Entry 14th January 2026: Post 1: Amiga Office Software - Office by Gold Disk 1990.
Amiga Office Software - Office by Gold Disk 1990.
Having added to the collection recently the very wonderful Little
Office I decided to acquire a more grown up package. And so I am
pleased today to welcome Office by Gold Disk to the collection.
Office provides a fully integrated office package including Spread
Sheet, Graphics, Data Base, Word Processor and Page Layout editor.
For all those in 1990 who wanted to impress conference meetings with
professional looking presentation documents for all your business
needs.
The software came with four disks and the mandatory thick manual.
All very impressive for 1990 I am sure. Having used Gold Disk
software before I am pretty sure it is more than capable of doing
the job in hand. If spreadsheets are your thing then this software
will knock your socks off.. no doubt. I was impressed that it was
able to load Lotus 1-2-3 and MaxiPlan documents. Most impressive.
I was mostly interested in the text editor which sadly didn't
impress. Was all a bit fiddly in truth when it didn't need to be.
Not an equal by any measure to CED. Seemed odd that you had to
run the spell checker as a different process.
This software has 1990 written all over it and lacks the polish
of say Wordworth or Softwoods equivalent. It is not bad but it
hardly makes you want to explore further than a cursory look.
I was surprised just how easy it was to get the software. As ever
with Ebay there were several bonkers auctions at mad prices, but
then this one came up at a more reasonable price. All four disks
worked no problem and I was able to copy them. The box was very
well presented and the manual 'unthumbed'. Certainly a nice
addition to the collection and sits very well with my other boxes.
