ScuzzBlog: Diaries July 2019

Entry 19th July 2019: Post 01: ZERO .. and the lovely Elvira.

ZERO .. and the lovely Elvira.

Frequent visitors to the site will know of my keen interest in all
things Elvira. I recently was watching some fascinating interviews
with Cassandra Peterson discussing the Elvira character and was
amazed that she secured the rights of the character almost at the
very beginning of her career with Elvira. Evidently the company she
worked for were resistant to improving her salary and so agreed
to give Cassandra the full rights to Elvira including all her
clothing etc. This has been of great benefit to Cassandra over the
years who still dons the Elvira gear and goes on stage.

Recently Cassandra had published a book of all her pictures and it
was this that I was searching Ebay for when I came across this copy
of ZERO magazine from June 1990. Sadly the book is only shipped
currently from the States and so I will wait till one appears in the
UK. Trust me you will be the first to know.

Anyhoo .. the magazine is a very colourful and rich body of all
things Commodore etc for the period and it made me reflect on just
how lucky I was growing up in an era when we had real magazines
and artists and journalists that went out of their way to entertain.
Elvira herself is a larger than life character and is befitting that
she is featured amongst the high colour pages of this quite magical
magazine.

There really is no substitute for the printed word and real honest
to goodness journalism. I fear the current social order will never
benefit from a world where true editorials were composed in lines
of greater than 140 characters or words ( sorry don't do Twitter ).
Artwork and imagery was so important when conjuring up the flavour
of games, books and productions. And so there was a literal army
of skilled and talented people working to give readers the very
best in published work. And so frequently.

And so here are a few select images from the ZERO magazine which
to me is a work of art. But then they all are. It was a very sad
day when computer magazines became little more than advertising
journals, and worse blog entries on the internet by mindless
idiots .... Hang on !! Do I mean me ?

The cover disk was from the November 1990 edition by the way.
