Entry 5th July 2025: Post 1: A590 failure - Well that sucks!
A590 failure - Well that sucks!
Twas a cold winters night earlier this year and my beloved A590
in the box room decided to not play ball. The thing refused to
boot and just hung there after the initial noisy spin up. The
drive was moved into intensive care and placed in a controlled
coma till the summer.
Anyway 30 degrees this week so I guess this is the summer. Just
25 degrees today and after a little gardening I decided to slot
the A590 back into play. Didn't work. Just the same problem.
She makes the initial whirring powering up noise but then just
goes through a steady pulsating, bloody annoying, clicking noise.
'Why have you forsaken me ?' was the shout bellowing from the
box room. Ar well... never mind, I have another. I swapped out
an A590 which I hold in reserve and she booted just fine. Sad
but hey these XT drives are like thirty five years plus old and
have no right to be living.
I don't think there is much chance of getting the 590 working
so I shall just mothball it I guess. Its time to put these
things to bed anyway. I have several dotted around the place
and they always amuse me how they keep chugging along.
