ScuzzBlog: Diaries July 2025 Entry 10th July 2025: Post 1: A500 Plus - Booting DF1: A500 Plus - Booting DF1: I was a little surprised the other day to be watching a well known YouTuber continually trying to boot an A500 motherboard with the 1.3 ROM into the Workbench using an external floppy drive. He eventually clocked that the 1.3 ROM will not boot using the DF1: For that you need 2.04 and later. To prove this little issue I set up my favourite Amiga 500 Plus with the ROM switcher and attempted to boot from DF1: using an external floppy. The machine is fitted with both 1.3 and 2.05 ROMS. The results proved you get a much whiter wash with the 2.05 ROMs. The 1.3 ROM just refused to do anything other than sit there clicking. So my advice is if you want to use DF1: external drive as a boot divice then get a machine fitted with 2.04 or better. For the very best solution get an A500 Plus with a ROM switcher to enjoy all the benefits of 1.3 and 2.04/2.05. Nuff said. Time for a cuppa.
