ScuzzBlog: Diaries July 2026
Entry 2nd July 2026: Post 1: SONY PlayStation - The end of the disc.
SONY PlayStation - The end of the disc.
If I am reading correctly the latest news from SONY it would appear
that from 2028 they will stop production of the physical media as
in discs. No more the blue plastic cases. This I believe means that
the PS6 will be a disc-less machine. To quote Peter Venkman.. ' Yes
this *** has no di c* (Ghostbusters).
So how do I feel about that. I am not surprised. We are living in
a world where access to the individual seems to the battleground
where all focus is set by the big players these days. The truth is
that most folk ( most folk ), have only one cognitive set of the
old receptors working at any one time ie they concentrate on one
thing at a time, they are unlikely to be logged into the SONY
Network if they are playing games on Steam or watching the sport
on something else, or chatting to their bud-buds on social media.
And so SONY become another company living on the cloud in the
hope that would-be users will ghost in and partake of their world.
For me it sounds shite, but hey what do I know. Here am I trying
to detach myself from real life and we have my beloved SONY now
insisting I have to be locked in and part of their network to
basically use their platform. I swear if I have to put up with
one more **cking spotty faced erbert showing me the contents of
their bloody nose when I try to play a YouTube video, I'll
swing this mouse round my head and curse the day I every got
the internet as I smash it into the wall. Or not.
I got an email from EE today wanting me to buy a Samsung watch.
They promote the thing by saying .. ' Stream all the action,
keep group chat popping and share every highlight '... Seriously
on a watch. What are you mental ? Talk about missing the mark.
I assume they are talking about football and the World Cup.
Again, as ever, I assume short of channel hopping these folk
hope you're going to be logged into them all the time... SO THEY
CAN FLOG YOU STUFF. Important that if you missed it.
I have long parted the ways between modern social device users
and my interests in pretty much everything. Those with what
appears to be a singular interest in life as portrayed by their
mobile device can certainly play over in another corner to me.
I will stick with my archaic discs and choose not to be
interrupted by the 'popping group chat' as I watch Ghostbusters.
I also have no desire to 'share all the action'. It's like
these days that everyone using these things just cannot watch
anything without it being TicToK short worthy.
Ar hum life on the cloud.
So for me SONY can do what they like. Doesn't mean I wont buy
a PS6. Just means I am less likely to use it. I mean I bought
a Windows 11 machine here and it sits idle next to me. Never
gets used. Basically cus it's the most boring load of crap I
have ever had the misfortune to purchase. And what am I using
right now... My Win7 machine kitted out with every media device
imaginable. And if I wanted to watch John Wick I would just
shove the disk in and not even need the internet working. I
don't need the internet to make my day. I don't have any urge
to share my experiences on social media. I like being all on
my own and in total control.
My only vice is the web site. I do share my thoughts here, only
as it appertains to the subject of what I do. Did you know that
on 1st July 2026 some 3597 human individuals visited my site So
I better say something.
Anyhoo it has been way too hot to use any of the kit so I have
been reading, writing, drawing and cleaning. I am mucking around
on the Amiga in the Workshop, as ever and joying in the solitude
of a world free from Google. There is another way of existing
that does not rely on internet dependency. You should try it.
I did comment yesterday regarding the SONY announcement given
the significance of the news and I simply stated that with each
change to service usage of media there is going to be a reaction
back toward retro. Simply cus it will give you a moment to
consider just who is in control of what. Online is a magical
place until the stream is broken. And with all these services
you are getting less control of what you really have, given that
it is walled behind cloud storage maybe or a network pass system.
And yet there is always another way with retro and you are
always in control. Nobody is going to stand in your way, ever.
OK that is enough I have to have a cuppa tea. Sun is shining
sadly... 'turned out shite again'.
