ScuzzBlog: Diaries June 2018 Entry 5th June 2018: Post: 2: SEGA Mega Drive II SEGA Mega Drive II - So it was you who broke it I didn't need DNA testing to discover the culprit of this damage as the owner left their picture inside the console. OK I was going to do a feature on the SEGA Mega CD and reading the blurb from the manual it said to first check that your Mega Drive is working. The unit basically allows you to plug in your Mega drive and use the CD functionality. A metal plate is secured to the base of the Mega Drive 1 or 2 and if the original Mega Drive you have to connect the additional side expansion piece. I plugged in the Mega Drive and found the thing not to be working. On closer inspection I discovered the rear pins to the TV connector to be at fault. It was worse than simply a broken pin, as a makeshift pin appears to have been made and glued into the rear connector. Took me a while to remove all the debris and busted pins. I then secured a new TV connector but discovered an intermittent fault with the connection. I decided to go in and with soldering iron at the ready expected to find a broken solder joint to the connector for either power or the TV connector. What I found was a kids toy and a negative of small film. The Saga of the SEGA The busted TV connector and the makeshift pins to try and make it work The strip of negative found inside Using my Photoshop skills I was able to invert the negative and enhance the colours and there is the previous owner I bought another TV connector off Ebay on the left compared to the broken one The items I found inside the Mega Drive II I discovered no broken joints No issues at the controller ports But the actual interface was shot to bits With that number made this is hardly ever going to be a collectors item The plate needed for the Mega CD II Still works with a little fiddling I'm using a black and white TV Not worth the trouble though, so I have bought another Mega Drive for £15 off Ebay And so if you know who it is in the picture then please let them know I have their broken Mega Drive II.
