Amstrad CPC464 - What's under your coffee table?.
I made a comment the other day about how I had given my house over
to the collection. There are few places in the house where the
computers do not make a showing. For example what do you think is
lurking below this dust cover on my coffee table? The clue is if
you follow the ribbon to the external Amstrad DDI-1 drive lurking
below.
Removing the dust cover reveals the Amstrad CPC464 with the DDI
interface so I can use 3" disks and muck around with CP/M whilst
I'm having my cuppa tea.
The computer is hooked up to a green screen Amstrad monitor which
is ideal for text based work. I have the manual on hand and very
often I will be drawn to the computer to investigate certain of
the CP/M commands.
The CPC464 is quite versatile and with just a special command I
can switch between tape and disc. So if I'm in the mood for an old
classic game on the CPC I can call on the tape. I tend to play the
text based games so I can use the keyboard as opposed to a joystick.
Mostly I sit at the table to draw with pencils. No need to switch
anything on and load software to use a pencil and paper. It still
is the quickest and most effective way to get my ideas out onto
paper.
Happy days!
