ScuzzBlog: Diaries June 2026
Entry 14th June 2026: Post 1: Amiga Games - Disk Copy SIMfest.
Amiga Games - Disk Copy SIMfest.
I have over 13000 disks and most are in secure disk boxes and are
stacked on shelves. Often when I get additional copies of disks
including orphaned games disks without boxes, I sometimes place
them in makeshift boxes and or drawers. The originals are copied
and files placed in the Amiga Repository. I make backups of the
Repository, which I just did and place on USB drive.
However in checking that all my disks still function I will at
times make LHA file copies of disks and store them in the emulator.
This I have been doing this week with a batch of games disks That
are orphaned on the desk in the disk room and are in makeshift
boxes.
One such set of disks are from the SIM collection of disks and
feature all of the various classics. In the day there seemed to
be a SIM game for so many varied and interesting subjects. They
never failed to entertain.
Anyhoo I set too creating copies of the files, first checking the
disks and then created an LHA archive before copying to ZIP and
then the PC and onto USB and back to the emulator. I am pleased
to report that all disks were found to be working no problem.
I have now moved onto some of the juggernauts of the game classics
with Beneath a Steel Sky .. 15 disks and Flight of the Amazon
Queen. Again not my original prized disks which I already have
copies of but additional sets.
Be aware that disks are for the most part original thorough-bred
disks and not copies. Saying that I did discover a crippled and
busted copy disk of Balance of Power which I couldn't resist the
challenge of fixing and which I did and copied to the archive.
I continue to rescue makeshift boxes and check disks. I still
have a small number to go. I am steadily clearing a path so I
can get to the EZ Tower. In the meanwhile I have been playing on
the Amstrad 464Plus and checking over some 3 inch disks. Looks
like the last months have been kind to the collection with hardly
any real losses.
I've actually dragged an A1200 onto the bench for tomorrow as
I need to extract a Blizzard for use on the tower. As you do.
Onward.
