Entry 16th June 2026: Post 1: A500-HD+ Impact Series II - Protected Environment.
A500-HD+ Impact Series II - Protected Environment.
One item of kit I have that is getting in short supply is the PSU
to the GVP Impact Series II for the A500. The units have serious
issues with capacitor leakage and I have just two left now. I keep
the good ones safely in plastic bags and in a secure metal cabinet
when not in use.
Today I wanted to inspect the A500 sidecar in the Workshop to
verify the disk contents and make sure Elvira Mistress of the Dark
was safely installed. Gives me an opportunity to make a record of
what is on the drive.
The A500 is housed in a special caddy with shelf and support tray
for the Philips CN8833-II monitor.
Anyhoo she fired up just fine and I was soon playing Elvira. I also
checked to see that the A4000 was working as she sits just to the
side of the A500. Both were working just fine.
The view from the Workshop is provided via French doors onto the
unprotected hostile environment of the New Forest. Home of such
terrifying creatures as hedgehogs and wood pigeons. Be warned
you don't want to be going out there... it be quite dangerous.
I found stuck to the side of the A4000 monitor my notes for
creating a DMS file in a plastic sleeve. Very useful.
OK that is three computers checked in the Workshop. Just two more
to go which I will probably check over tomorrow.
You may find this amusing. I am being tormented at the moment
by a nutter on a motor mower. He has been at it for two days and
whilst the noise isn't too intrusive it is a drone. Anyway, I
have playing through speakers to my side a YouTube video of ambient
street noise from a city street intersection in New York USA. It
is quite amusing listening to sounds of conversation as people
walk by. Very relaxing. I much prefer the city noises to the drone
of grass cutters. I grew up in the Midlands so I am prone to get
those Birmingham Blues once in a while.
