ScuzzBlog: Diaries March 2020 Entry 31st March 2020: Post 01: CPC464 - Amstrad Action Pack. CPC464 - Amstrad Action Pack. Was time to drag out one of my Amstrad CPC464s today to check over my Amstrad Action disc or more specifically my Amstrad Action Pack tapes. Last time I tried to use my Amstrad Action Pack tapes I was greeted with a requester for a code that was available from the Amstrad Action magazine. Sadly I didn't have the magazine, nor do I have any quantity of the mags. So it looked like all the tapes I had were gated behind the magazine. Anyhooo... imagine my surprise when I discovered a CD on Ebay with PDF copies of all the magazines. Man was I pleased. So much so that I also bought the Commodore Format and ZZap64 discs. Amazing quality I have to say and much impressed. With CPC464 set up complete with DDI-1 3" drive I set about trying out the tapes. With the interface on the computer you need to enter the special key [ SHIFT-AT .. that is the symbol for at ] which gives the vertical bar on the screen and then enter TAPE and like magic the DDI-1 is disabled and you gain access to the TAPE. The Amstrad like the C64 uses a couple of key combinations to fire up the TAPE and in no time I was playing games and mucking around with Databases and the like. Funny though... no code required. If you ever have a CPC464 not working I would first check the contacts in the ON/OFF switch. That is a big problem with these computers. Just needs a gentle clean and you will be good to go. Both the DDI-1 and the tape cassette have had their rubber bands replaced. The 3" is a little tricky but worth the effort. I've said it before and I will say it again... I do like the CPC464. I do wish I had owned one in the day. Better the 6128, but with the interface the CPC464 would have been enough for me. CPC464 - Amstrad Action Pack.
