Entry 1st March 2022: Post 1: The PS4 - A long time coming.

The PS4 - A long time coming.

I was never quite sure about buying a PS4, and had almost resigned
myself to the idea of leap-frogging this console and buying the PS5.
However, the temptation of Yorha 2B, Ada Wong, Tifa Lockhart and
Lara Croft just became too great to resist. I must have played
through the walk-throughs of Nier Automata and Resident Evil on
YouTube so many times. Thankfully with the release of the PS5 and
the slow down in the isolation of folk around the world, both the
consoles and the games have become a very reasonable price. So I
spent a long time researching various consoles and purchased a 1TB
slim. Primarily cus it was newer and had the bigger drive. I also
liked the box artwork, albeit not a great Star Wars fan.

I have been quite nervous of the SONY given my problems with the
PS3, but I thought if I don't so this now I probably never will.
And so I now have a PS4 and have already beaten the game in Nier
and am on my second end version, of which there are 13 I think.

This is an old console now being released in November 2013. The
APU is an AMD [ Accelerated Processor Unit ] built on the x86-64
architecture. It has high-dynamic-range video with 4K resolutions.
The slim version of which mine is was released in Sept 2016.

So why didn't I want the PS4 all those years. Cus it really looks
so utterly drab and boring. It's like someone took a pizza box and
painted it black, stuck the motherboard in the bottom half and
then a big fan in the top and just pushed the thing over to give
it a bit of a slant. It really is a dreary old looking console.
And I wasn't wrong, it has to be the worst looking unit amongst
all the kit I have. What is worse is they destroyed the controller.
It's longer in length, heavier and has these two bonkers buttons,
which they moved and turned them right angle to the front and flush
with the controller. They are a pig to activate in game.

So I'm not impressed with the style and look of the beast, and I
am not minded to buy a stand so it can sit vertically. I am most
troubled by the therm o-paste they use to heat glue the chips
and I am starting to think gravity is not a good thing. So she
will sit flat with plenty of air space.

The catalogue of games for the PS4 is not impressive. If you like
shooters then you will be well blessed. But for action, adventure
with an atmospheric exploration edge there isn't much on offer.
Times were a changing by the launch of the PS4 and Square couldn't
even despatch a good version of Final Fantasy in that time. There
are the odd games of interest like Hitman and Detroit, and I shall
be getting those. But without the remake of FFVII I wouldn't have
bothered. Saying that having now played Nier Automata I would buy
a PS4 just for this game. I have been kinda playing a little too
much these last few days.

So games in the pipeline are GTA, Hitman, Resident Evil 2 remake,
Tomb Raider the second from Crystal Dynamics and Detroit. I am
going to pace the games out one after another. I have FF VII the
remake coming at this time and I shall play that when I have
managed to complete the many endings in Nier Automata.

And so in summary the PS4 is a crap looking console with a very
poor controller but filled with 'extra added goodness'. She still
has a heart of gold and works without complaint. I do like SONY I
just wish they would focus on reliability and design.

Anyhoo, what is life without fun things to do. I just have to
have a game to play. I'm in heaven right now with Yorha 2B.

The PS4 - A long time coming.
