Entry 8th March 2022: Post 1: Atari - Tracking down some floppy drives.

Atari - Tracking down some floppy drives.

A long long long time ago, against better judgement, I purchased
a few Atari machines. I know... what was I thinking about. Anyway
with one of the Atari 1040 STFM machines came a couple of strange
floppy drives. For my way of thinking they just didn't look like
they were designed for the computer, and so I put them in a box
and forgot about them.

Today I found myself mulling over just what Atari machines these
things were designed for. The one had a strange circular plastic
feature that was not evident from the ST floppy face plate. The
second just was way too big.

The first thinner is a Epson SMD-480L and from the various forums
appears to be indeed for the ST. Not sure about the rogue feature.
The second is a TDK-T41V ' big floppy button' and is for the
Atari Mega ST2.

Following up on the Mega ST this machine was the professional
version of the STf and made in 1987. Has a Motorola MC 68000 runs
at 8mHz with just 4MB RAM. The OS was TOS and GEM. A pretty rare
machine, and I am the proud owner of a floppy drive. So not much
more to get to put one together ... or not. Probably not.

I guess I could post a question on the Atari forums and find out
more about the strange plastic blip on the other drive. Again
though probably not.

Anyhoo that's all for this month on the Atari. Phew.
