Entry 20th March 2022: Post 1: Amiga 1500 - Day 3 of the backup TurboPrint Brilliance.

Amiga 1500 - Day 3 of the backup TurboPrint Brilliance.

OK Where was I ? I had managed to rebuild the Workbench from the
drive on the A1500 onto the emulator, and so I now needed to
create a copy of the Working drive. Plus I needed to create a
copy of the two missing drives from the entries in the user-startup.

Easy... You would think. I've been at this three days now.

I did manage to pull everything off the drive using just ten DD
floppy disks and a lot of leg work climbing stairs. I struggled
with one or two files that must have fallen over and I needed to
rebuild.

The problems started late yesterday with TurboPrint and Brilliance
that, even though they were a complete duplicate, and worked on the
1500, would not work on the emulator. I tried everything but in the
end had to install copies of my own versions of the software. I was
trying to keep the installation true to the original.

TurboPrint is a very complex little tool that threads it's way into
all your software making printing easier. Not that I ever use a
printer. Also there was this Ghostwriter script that truly was the
ghost in the shell.

Onto day three ...

I thought today would be easier. Think again. I was recreating some
of the word processing and desktop publishing packages. I first had
to build the missing drives and recreate what I believed was the
file structure. Slowly the error messages on boot died away, but
I hit a couple of snags. The first was with Professional Page and
the dreaded CGFonts. The software insists on locating itself in
another directory so I had to shift and work the assign. It would
not accept the conventional assign, requiring an assign for PPage
followed by and entry for CGFonts... I had experienced this before.
Worked in the end.

But then bloody Arnor and ProText. This thing works no problem on
the 1500 but will not work on the emulator. I have so many copies
of the software and boxed originals but it refuses to play ball. I
have tried everything. Been at it the best part of the day. I guess
I will have another go tomorrow. Could be a problem with the transfer
rate on the hard drive.. dunno. Just keeps crashing.

I have two other annoyances that I will solve tomorrow. The first
is the HELP function in MUI. Again not an issue on the 1500 but
on boot in the emulator throws up a stop error. And the last is
an application related to TurboPrint and the 'wizard.library'. It
does exist. Sadly SnoopDOS isn't working either. GRRRRRRR !!!!!!!!

Enough. I sank down this rabbit hole three days ago and I am the
kinda person that just can't give up so I'm stuck till its fixed.
May not look like I've done much, but trust me , I'm sure we have
all been in a situation like this when it may be just a small thing,
but it kinda makes it impossible to focus on anything else.

I better eat something... I see its dark again. Interesting.

PS: If James is reading this ... A little help please !!

Amiga 1500 - Day 3 of the backup TurboPrint Brilliance.

I see the 'death star' is back to it's wicked ways.
Struggled with the bright light with photography
today so time to switch back to morning sessions.
Or black out the windows ...

I gave up in the end and carried on with the 1500.
