Amstrad CPC464-DDI - Disc failure.
Bit of an odd occurrence today using the CPC464 and the DDI 3 inch
disc drive cus when I tried to save, the drive gave out the error
of disc missing. This sent my heart a fluttering as that was the
error I got when the rubber band in the drive bust.
I have replaced all the belts in 3" drives to the Amstrad, Spectrum
and Tatung Einsten and that was a lot , I can tell you. I also
replaced the power switches and cassette belts. I thought I was
done with this so today got me a touch troubled.
I took the disc over to the 6128 and it worked fine. I then spent
some time with a 3 inch head cleaner I have. That made no difference.
Finally, I decided to test the disc from the 6128 which has the same
files as the CPC 464. Bloody thing worked .. The disc from the 6128
ran just fine and I was able to save a short program. Thing is I
use the same discs on the 6128 machines, Plus machines and the 464s.
Maybe it is that temperamental about specific drives. Dunno.
Anyway, disaster averted and I can get on with my little challenge
testing out screen modes. I will actually be on a different 464
tomorrow so fingers crossed the DDI on that machine is working.
UPDATE:
On other matters I have transferred my activities to the Win 10
machine. Has taken an age getting files over and stuff set up.
Added to the fact my mage in Warcaft has taken for ever getting to
Level 80... Level 78 today but I'm getting there. Also checking
out PS5 machines and most probably go for the one with the disc
drive. I'm a ways off but getting closer.
PS: Sorry for using old pics but if you could see the way I have
the 464 set up on the table in front of me in the lounge, as
cramped as it is, you probably would understand. She's working
fine which is all that matters.
