Entry 3rd March 2026: Post 1: Amiga 1200 - Chasing MOOT 60GB HD Aliens are Cool.
Amiga 1200 - Chasing MOOT 60GB HD Aliens are Cool.
Following on from previous blogs relating to the missing hard drive
with the Aliens are Cool AMOS Workbench and 60GB hard drive I went
on a search for MOOT, one of my A1200s that I had used to set up a
Q Drive external CD. May sound a little obscure, but inside the
case with the Q Drive CD stuff was the Aliens are Cool CDs and I
got to thinking I may have used the drive to install the AMOS backup.
And so the search started. Not easy when the label is on the
underside of the Amiga and I have them in various locations, some
in boxes.
After a little digging I found MOOT sitting on a low shelf so took
the machine to the bench and the Samsung monitor. Cannot believe
that this computer has a Blizzard 1230IV accelerator sitting there
unused.
At first she refused to boot into the hard drive. She hasn't been
used for a long time. Anyway I got over that problem but sadly
there was no signs of the missing 60GB hard drive. The drive was
only 325MB at best and must have come with the computer when I
got her. I know this to be someone elses drive cus I would not
have put the Amitamagotchi software on there. The other software
relates to my usual tools and the Q Drive, Squirrel and 5.25 inch
software that I used in the blog featuring the Q Drive. In other
words its an empty hard drive pretty much. At 325 MB very old
and generally useless.
The computer was working fine. No nasty screen tints and the mouse
operation was smooth and she responded to all keyboard tasks. The
Blizzard was working fine complete with 32MB RAM. Such a waste
having a computer like this just sitting dormant. Never mind.
I don't plan on searching for the missing drive. I guess at some
time I will happen across the drive. For now I think I will close
this little adventure and put the Amitamagotchi to bed. And why
the name MOOT. Well I didn't have the sound set up on the Amiga.
Not sure if that was a fault. I didn't think to check it on the
bench. Just a name that was the first thing that came to mind.
I rarely have the sound set up on any of my machines.
