Entry 9th March 2026: Post 1: My Amiga Data - 80Mb was never enough.
My Amiga Data - 80Mb was never enough.
I have been backing up my Amiga files I use with the emulator on
the Win7 machine and the process has taken a good couple of days.
The amount of time I have spent over the years backing up Amiga
files is incalculable. The Amiga has such a lot of incredibly small
files and the processes are complicated by using a Windows machine.
When I reflect on the fact that back in 1993 I had but an 80 MB
hard drive. That is megabytes. I have saved all my stuff in one
form or another and all is saved on this machine. And backups.
I just added up the total storage size of my data and website
files and for the Amiga it stands at a staggering 190GB of data.
I manage the emulator WinUAE in the format that my Amiga computers
have always been set up and each has a full compliment of the
software that I use. I also have my original older repository and
a duplicate I have of the one on my Amiga 4000 in the Workshop.
I also have my treasured smaller storage areas that are unique to
my offline version of the website. And there is the website.
The data grows with each passing year and each month I spend a
good time backing up Amiga stuff and my other browsing files. You
cannot believe how many USB hard drives I have and sticks plus
network data storage across multiple machines. I have always
been very careful keeping duplicate copies of everything. There
are wall shelves full of CD's and DVDs in this room and it is all
catalogued.
I'm just about done now so I can start collecting more data.
Onward.
PS I was never a fan of the emulator in the beginning but I have
found it of real benefit for taking screen snapshots of software.
The Amiga screens are distorted, have scanlines and I have to
pick the time of day to avoid sunlight. It also forced me to
make copies of all my software for use with the emulator. I don't
think I could live without it now.
My Amiga Data - 80Mb was never enough.
