ScuzzBlog: Diaries March 2026
Entry 11th March 2026: Post 1: CUAmiga - Softwood March 94.
CUAmiga - Softwood March 94.
It would be remiss of me having mentioned the joys of Amiga Format
for March 1994, not to celebrate Format's main rival in the magazine
stakes, CU Amiga for March 1994. I hadn't intended featuring this
magazine but when I saw the cover of the March edition I just could
not resist.
I have featured the March 94 edition of CUAmiga a number of times
in my blogs. It has to be one of my most favourite editions. The
image on the cover was badly damaged from cover disk removal to one
of my copies and I decided to rebuild the image in Photoshop.
Inside we find two games which were giants of the day, Beneath a
Steel Sky and Sim City 2000. To play Sim City I went out and got
a GVP Turbo 030 accelerator. Yet another milestone in my Amiga life.
The most significant find however was Softwood which stays with me
to this very day. I was so absorbed by their gift on the coverdisk
that I went ahead and bought the manual and other products from
them. For a while I received regular mails from them promoting the
Final range of software. I truly have never found such an easy to
use software product in all my years using a computer. Just magic.
I have to say having reflected on my 1994 year on the Amiga this
was probably the most enjoyable time I had on the Amiga. It truly
cemented my love affair with the computer and was cause to have
a lasting affect on my life. I have never been able to sever my
connection to the computer hence my still talking about it today.
Anyhoo that was that for March 1994. Brought a little brightness
into an otherwise dull, wet and blustery day in the forest. The
days were always very bright and cheerful as I recall during the
spring of 1994 and the magazines reflected this. Sadly the storm
clouds of Commodore's demise were about to bring about a cold
chill
Happy days !!
