Entry 13th March 2026: Post 1: PrinzSound TR9 - Analogue antiquities in a shoebox.

PrinzSound TR9 - Analogue antiquities in a shoebox.

Thems that follow my collecting will know I have a soft spot for
the 1970s PrinzSound brand. Mostly cus my first radio cassette
player that I bought as a youth was a PrinzSound. I have been
trying to track down a replacement but so far with no luck.

Today I feature my second TR9 cassette recorder which arrived just
yesterday. I already have one of these, but sadly the last one I
purchased had some nasty scratched on the metalwork. This latest
player has no such scratches and is in immaculate condition.

Strange fact that I was approached after I featured the first unit
in a blog by a props company wanting to buy the cassette player to
feature in a film. I declined.

The TR9 is one of the earliest in the range. The clue is in the
number which is just number 9. Note the fake wood panel on the case
which was an essential embellishment for the day.

These machines are being referred to on various YouTube videos as
shoebox cassette players. Not sure I ever referred to them as such.
The idea being that the player will fit in a shoebox.

There seems to be quite an interest in old analogue kit and musical
experts who tinker with kit are converting these units to sample
sounds and record music. Really weird activities and not something
I enjoyed watching as they drilled and hacked the casings.

I shall continue my search for my illusive radio cassette. You never
know. I do not try to play any of the kit. I just like the look and
feel of the old equipment.
