Aegis Modeler - 3-D Object Generation System.
Following on from my adventure with Lightwave I decided to pull
one of the originating pieces of software to see if I could trace
key features that found their way into the later product. Sure
enough there was the very bones of Lightwave very clearly held
within this Aegis software, and amazingly all on just one DD disk.
I have to say having spent a good part of my career using CAD
software designing buildings, even I would find this software a
challenge to master. From three adjustable windows and a solid
view you are challenged with creating actual 3-D models of stuff
that exists. I mean just where do you get the dimensions of the
Ferrari. The biggest problem for me was viewing as a wire frame.
Early in my CAD career I used ArchiCAD on the Mac and that used a
hidden line technique that literally took all night to render. In
those days we actually took real photographs of the screen cus
we couldn't afford a colour printer. The term we used was cooking
as we let the drawing render over night.
Anyhoo .. The software was way too complicated to simply have a
fiddle with, so I very quickly called up an airplane to land in
the close and I used my tape measure to take dims and draw up a
basic model. I can't back any of that up. Suffice to say a very
impressive package for the Amiga but beyond my abilities to use.
This box was actually mint new when I got it and I had to remove
the protective cellophane wrapping. I then has to open the sealed
envelope with the disk and registration number. Aegis were the
real deal in the day and a very established large company. I do
have a number of their products. They created a lot for the Amiga.
If I get a minute I will dig out some more of their products. I
do know that some of their other software has way more disks. In
this instance just the one disk and it worked without fault.
