Entry 27th March 2026: Post 2: Samsung Monitor - That brown tint.

Samsung Monitor - That brown tint.

Not really sure what is going on with the Samsung monitor, whether
it's the Amiga, monitor or my eyes. Thing is I am nervious of tints
on A1200s cus all the chips are surface and the culprit DAC would
need full desoldering from the board and replacing. Not something
I could do.

Anyhoo the mystery is that the brown tint does not appear on the
same monitor from nine years ago. But the hint of brown to the
periphery is also on two other A1200 computers that I tested on the
monitor. I can't believe that I would be that unlucky.

The A1200 that is 'not' the one marked A500 ( I keep getting them
mixed up ) does have a light to dark brown fleck in the pattern. It
is most clear on the RAM chip icon. I removed the pattern but still
get a faint brown tint to the edges.

The camera setting was on a different camera to the one I used today
and in truth made no difference. The tint gets worse in normal
daylight.

For me it probably reflects a nine year old monitor that has been
truly hammered. It also reflects a more than nine year old camera
that has also been hammered. Also the computers could be fading but
I doubt it. And finally there is me with a constant fear of stuff
getting old and fading away. That last one is the most troubling.

Anyhoo I am minded to consider all possibilities with the least being
the actual Amiga 1200s being at fault. I was trying to avoid dragging
a proper Amiga monitor onto the bench and so have concluded for now
that the monitor, camera and task lighting is the most likely cause.
I would like to say that that is the end of this... but if experience
has shown me anything then I'm probably gonna be coming back to the
bench with this little challenge. Man I hate myself.

Ar hum !

Samsung Monitor - That brown tint.

Tint on second Amiga 1200.

Tint with Workbench pattern enabled.

Tint on third Amiga 1200.

Tint is not brown 9 years ago but dark grey.

By the way these monitors always are brighter
in the middle and the contrast looks worse on
a camera. Using the monitor is fine, I just
don't want to lose an Amiga to a DAC.
