Amiga Format AFCD48
I had a request recently for a full listing of the CDs I have in the
collection and realised I have never really featured a fully indexed
set of Amiga discs, or any other CDs to be truthful. I have like a
mass of CDs piled up on various shelves and below workbenches. The
trouble with the CD is that they are just so full of stuff I rarely
take the time to look through any of them.
Time was a Fred Fish disk was all I needed to keep me occupied. But
even these transferred over to CD and then lost all purpose. There
is just too much, given the small nature of Amiga files.
And so to AFCD48 and why did I choose to feature this edition of AF.
To be totally honest there is no reason. The magazine dates from 2000
and at a time when there was pretty much only Amiga Format still in
production. So finding enough material to fill a CD was an achievement
in its own right.
During this period the magazine pages were littered with various CDs
you could purchase for the Amiga. The PD format of cataloguing had
long been abandoned, so how anyone ever catalogues all the discs I
would imagine could prove rather a tricky task. For me I decided it
really is so daunting I decided not to bother. Sad really but I guess
I am more of a 'disk' person than a 'disc' user when it comes to
the Amiga.
In centuries to come they will be sifting through debris of the 90's
era and no doubt find a gazillion CD discs rotting away. The CD came
and kinda went in the blink of an eye. DVD may fair better but in
time I guess also will be junked in favour of simple online downloads.
In time I guess everything will be streamed to users with nothing
ever stored for personal use.
Anyway here are the respective pages from Amiga Format and AFCD48.
I do own pretty well all of Amiga Format CDs, many times over along
with CUAmiga discs. They gather dust for the most part. Even my Aminet
discs and Fred Fish collection rarely see the light of the laser.
