Entry 18th May 2019: Post 01: Quest and Glory: Iron Lord - Atari

Quest and Glory: Iron Lord - Atari

OK our hero returns from his crusades in the Holy Lands and finds
that not only has his father been ejected from his thrown but his
tyrant uncle now rules the land. Sound familiar ? Pretty much your
stock adventuring knights in shining armour kinda stuff. Where you
play the part of the down trodden hero who has to earn the trust
of his people to take on the big bad guy.

I had never actually known of this game till I picked the box up
whilst sorting through my Atari stuff. I dunno why but it sounded
more like an industrial tycoon kinda game set in the industrial
revolution. The game was created by Atari in 1989 and published
by Ubi Soft as part of their Quest and Glory box set.

I was so taken by the game I thought I would give it a run. The
game loaded no problem and requires only the joystick to martial
you player into action. The interface is quite imaginative insomuch
that you get a mini map that is more like a maze where you see your
character walking around trying to find gates and doors etc to
interact with.

When you exit from the mini map and zone information window you get
the image of the world. And when you click a new destination a small
window pops up showing you riding to your next destination. Your
actual location on the map is represented by a tiny image of you
riding through the countryside.

I actually did enjoy the game and found it very easy to interact
with. I have downloaded an Amiga version [ bad boy ] as there was
but one on Ebay and they wanted a load of dosh for it. So if you get
the chance I would give it a whirl.

Next up I played Blood Money which is part of box two of the special
edition provided for the Atari 520STE. A scrolling shooting flying
killing game which is pretty typical for its day. Quite well presented
and also quite addictive. I thought the graphics were pretty good
even though I was playing in black and white. The main reason for
looking at the game was the Atari version of Anarchy which I do know
very well as I have the game on the Amiga. Great game.

Anyhoo ... that was my day with the Atari and some quite fun games.
I still find the Atari very clunky as an OS and not my favourite.
It always works though and the games do tend to function very well.

Sorry for the poor display images. I always
use the old black and white when testing stuff
