Entry 24th November 2020: Post 1: HP XP Desktop - Battery failure.

HP XP Desktop - Battery failure.

Not having much luck with PCs at the moment. My fault for not
using them enough. Today I flicked on the 'Studio' HP XP desktop
and she promptly refused to boot telling me there was a system
failure. I recognised the symptoms as a dead coin battery and so
I replaced the battery and she booted up no problem. Gave me the
opportunity to take some pics.

This is a very good little computer. It has pretty much every
facility for reading data and I use this to convert and edit my
videos as it has a pre-install of an earlier version of video
editing software before some of the old codecs vanished. Also
it has the MS Movie Maker which they stopped shipping.

The computer has already been repaired once before by me having
had a hard disk failure. Fortunately HP have built in flash
drives and so having replaced the drive it was just a simple case
of restoring the system.

Doing the rounds I discovered my HP iPAQ battery flat and that
too had to reinstall the software. Whilst the machine can be
be used as a telephone it currently has no connectivity. The
screen is a fully touch screen type and has the Windows pocket
PC software which is truly crap.

There is a ghost in this hand held and she can never escape. She
has a habit of turning the clock back to a time when she resided
within.

Lastly I charged up the Evesham laptop and my days work was done.
May not be retro in the true sense but this kit is fifteen years
old now and not getting any younger.

Back to Warcraft !! Whoo Hoo.
