Entry 7th October 2019: Post 02: Atari 1050 - Just checking.

Atari 1050 - Just checking.

It's very important to keep the wheels, cogs and rubber bands well
oiled on these older drives. The trick I find is to just keep using
them. So I regularly connect up the Atari 1050 and the cassette
data drive and make sure all is fine. Be aware that the 1050 is
useless without the DOS disk.

The manual explains what DOS means and even says it is pronounced
as ' doss '. Given that it is the Disk Operating System I guess you
would expect to have that on a disk. Almost brings the computer to
life having some kind of interface on the screen.

To use the drive you first switch on the floppy drive until the
busy light stops flashing. Then you insert the DOS disk and only
when the latch is closed do you switch on the computer. Next you
type the word DOS into the keyboard and RETURN gets you the DOS
screen as the floppy springs into action. Easy peasy.

Anyway she worked just fine so time to put her back on the shelf.
