Entry 11th October 2026: Post 1: AUI cover disks - A rare thing.

AUI cover disks - A rare thing.

So why are the cover disks of Amiga User International a bit of
a rarity to download from some of your more popular Amiga magazine
sites. The reason lies in the fact that the second disk of the
monthly offering is normally a none bootable disk and so cannot
be ADF copied. The second disk relies on the first disk having
been booted. From the first disk you get the menu and then the
process unarchives to your hard disk or floppy disk.

To give the contents of the disk would involve anything up to
seven disks and a good time creating the disks. I guess it is
for this reason why the disks are becoming a bit of a rarity.

I was never a big fan of AUI, choosing other publications over
this particular magazine. The cover disk content was generally PD
type programs, the sort of thing you could find on Aminet. They
were never too enticing and so I was always drawn to Format, CU
or Amiga Computing. Also the writing on the disks was very small
and difficult to read whilst at the magazine racks in the day.

By way of example I provide extracted copies of the seven disks
that made up AUI Superdisks No67 and 68. These are all generally
labeled as Great or Essential and are Games or Utilities. So
seven disks ... Utilities Disk 1, Games Disk 1, Chaos Pro Disk,
Utilities Disk 2, Games Disk 2, Essential Data Types, and Utilities
Disk No 3.

Of that little lot I would generally only be interested in the
Data Types. Just to add to my library.

I have placed each LHA file of the disks in a ZIP archive. So
simply extract in your emulator or Amiga and get ready to becoming
thoroughly bored. I know I did.

I do own pretty well every AUI cover disk and CD discs. I do have
reason to extract disks at times if I need a specific library or
data type. I rarely hunt down copies of the disks online though
do snaffle the odd PDF of the magazines as I never got round to
collecting them all. Still an important piece of Amiga history and
certainly worth nabbing if you can afford it.

Anyhoo On the back cover of the October 95 edition is an advert
for the A1200XL which may suggest time travelers have taken the
modern large version of the retro A1200 back in time. Actually
the A1200XL was an accelerator made by ACL Distribution. The
card had an SCSI module. Dunno how I missed that.

01 AUI OCT95A disk a
02 AUI OCT95B disk b
03 AUI OCT95C disk c
04 AUI OCT95D disk d
05 AUI OCT95E disk e
06 AUI OCT95F disk f
07 AUI OCT95G disk g

Those LHA extracted AUI disks 'a' through to 'g'
