Entry 18th September 2019: Post 01: Amiga 500 - Plus a damaged RAM card - Part 1.

Amiga 500 - Plus a damaged RAM card - Part 1.

Yesterday I touched on the issue of Amiga 500 RAM cards and the
risk of leakage from batteries placed on them to provide a clock.
I decided to day to not only show a card that had been damaged by
battery leakage but also to test it in an Amiga 500.

The computer itself was the subject of battery damage. So much so
that I was eventually forced to replace the 500Plus motherboard
with an A500 board given that I had no spare Plus boards available.
The computer has been subject to extensive repair work as seen
from my notes on the sticky labels to the trapdoor cover.

The RAM board was extensively damaged by the battery and I cleaned
up as best I could never anticipating that I would use it again. So
when I dragged it out to photograph today I couldn't help wonder
whether it was still working.

I wasn't set up with a monitor so I pulled an A520 modulator to
connect into a black and white TV which would suffice for the
exercise. To assist further I also brought to the bench my trusty
Amiga 1011 floppy drive to check that the rear ports were functioning
with the card installed.

I also show the Amiga PSU brick that I use for all tests on Amigas
brought to the bench. It never fails me and is so important.

And so with everything connected I switched everything on first
without the card installed to see all was functioning ....

You will need to view the next post to see what happened.
