Entry 06th September 2022: Post 1: RISK - World domination in 1963.

RISK - World domination in 1963.

I took the opportunity this summer to replace some of my hitherto
abandoned board games. I just couldn't resist a 1963 version of
the popular world strategy game RISK. This was the version that
I had and which is sprinkled around the house in various parts. I
sense I may have used the original box cardboard to build a
college project... being desperate in those days for supplies.

The game is quite simple in truth with you placing in turn armies
on specific countries and then using your game cards and fresh
troops to invade opposing territories. Eventually the player with
the whole map in his/her colour is the winner. The game was
featured in the Seinfeld episode 12 Label Maker series 6 where
Kramer takes on Newman.

For my part the game reflects a time when getting together with a
group of friends to idle away a whole night was pretty common. This
could develop into an all night session and become quite heated.

I featured the game in a previous post regarding the Amiga game.

The box is in amazing condition given the 1963 tag. I sense the
game isn't that old, but the version is. Who knows. The game by
Parker Games was the brain child of French film director Albert
Lamorisse in 1957 originally called 'La Conquete du Monde' or
The Conquest of the World. This was purchased by Parker Bros and
came to the shops in 1958. If you are in the mood to collect
classic board games then this should be high on your wish list.
