I continue to clear up my workspace that I created to avoid the summer heatwave and recovered an MSX machine that somehow got buried under a pile of documents. Nothing heavy but being fearful I may have depressed a few keys for greater a length of time than I would normally tolerate, I decided to drag it out onto the bench and give it a bit of a clean and check over those keys. I am not normally taken to placing objects on computers but in this case the machine was so well wrapped in tissue I couldn't make out what it was so it became a kinda shelf for odd papers as it was in reaching distance from the chair I was sitting in. The machine now some 42 years old far exceeds the acceptable age for switching on. It is officially glass cased and will remain that way till I die. It is a quite splendid example of the MSX era what with the enhancements by Yamaha to give is a musical twist. The unit is quite black and yet it photographs grey how weird. I do like the simple styling of the beast. It also has a big folder of software and an external PSU. Anyhoo I'm just about done clearing up. Just have to do the run around and test the computers I have set out down here. I really do not care for the summer and these heat waves make for a most objectionable time of it. Give me the cold any day. Yamaha CX5M Music Computer made in Japan in 1984. Utilises Microsoft Extended BASIC ( MSX BASIC V1.0 ) Runs on a Zilog Z80 at 3.58 MHz and has 32 KB RAM ( up to 64 KB ) Sound: General Instruments AY-3-8910 Programmable Sound Generator plus built-in SFG-01 Sound Module.
