Amiga Joystick - The QuickShot Python 1M by Bondwell.
Someone was asking for details of the QuickShot Python joystick
from the Amiga era so they could find a modern equivalent. Here
goes.
First up can I say I have a box literally filled with these things.
This model and the early version were my favourite weapon of
choice. Thing is they are all busted. I was dead keen on joystick
type games and particularly Sensible Soccer. The problem with the
joystick was the metal tangs that activated the direction switches.
After a while of constantly being flexed to make contact with the
switch they would snap. Suddenly your little footballer stopped
moving in one of the directions. I have been known for pulling
the connector and twirling the joystick round above my head and
smashing it into the wall. The joystick was of no use.
I actually bought the last of the stick from Game when they closed
their Amiga display. Sad day that.
Anyhoo to the spec. From Bondwell 1991 who made any number of
products. Compatible with Sega, Atari, Commodore, Amstrad and MSX
and active via a switch on the base. The joystick had a BioGrip
subject to Trademark which gave the stick better grip. Two positive
response fire buttons, autofire by switching and holding down a
button. Four position operating mode. A 6 foot cable and 9 pin
connector. The joystick was fitted with six deluxe positive
response micro switches.
I gotta say that once I discovered the game pad I never used the
joystick again. I just hated the need to have the thing anchored
to get best grip. And then the suckers wouldn't let you lift the
bloody thing off the desk. Really annoying.
