Entry 12th September 2026: Post 1: HP PC - I broke my new computer.
HP PC - I broke my new computer.
Last November I bought a new HP Win11 machine for around a thousand
quid. I have hardly used the thing cus the Win11 OS is dreadful. I
just find it hard work. They stuck all your links into a coloured
window which is designed to show apps and even though you say don't
show stuff they keep adding icons to the window. So trying to find
anything is a nightmare.
Anyway I will circle back to my astounding cock up.
I still use the Win10 computer for my daily stuff. Since the Win7
fell over I have been using an XP machine for all my creative work.
Consequently I am in a Win10 and XP mindset and never use the
Win11 machine.
About three days ago I fired up Thunderbird on the Win10 machine
and strangely there was no subject header content or author details.
The mail was received and there was actual mail content but the
subject header was blank. When I logged into BT there was a dreadful
delay reading my mail. From a little research I discovered my mail
folder may be full. Anyhoo I deleted a few gazillion and that seemed
to clear matters.
However as a check I fired up the Win11 machine cus it has my mail
on there also. This is where my nightmare starts.
The HP Win11 machine only has a power light and no hard drive light
so I have no indication of disk activity. I put that down to a flash
memory and not a physical hard drive. What happens very often is I
simply get a black screen. I have no idea what is going on but I
generally go decorate a room, do my washing and watch a film while
it clears. Joking.
In this instance I went back to my Win10 machine and finished
checking all the mail etc. However after several minutes the HP PC
was still on a dead black screen. I had no real choice but to
switch the thing off. On firing it back up after a long pause it
cycled through the boot image and rotating disc thingy and I was
into the early boot where I enter my pin. The thing booted as
normal. Strangely Battlenet logged in but couldn't display the
content in the window. It said OOPS! I just ignored it. I then
fired up the mailer but said it could not send or receive any
messages. It was at this point I checked the internet and it was
not connected.
So I rebooted..... no difference.
It was at this point that I started a process that has lasted a
good three days, talking to the Google Ai and watching YouTube
videos and getting very frustrated. The Ai is magic I got on very
well with it and it was very helpful. Sadly everything I tried
failed and the Ai eventually conceded I had initiated what is
termed a 'deep core corruption' in the OS. And was probably caused
by me interrupting an update. Probably when I had the black screen.
I tried resetting the network stack and all that. I checked if the
DHCP was running which it was. I power cycled the BT hub. I obtained
a new IP address. I did all the various trouble shooters. Updated
drivers, fixed core files. Next I disabled the virus checker. I then
rolled back the system files. I checked for blocked devices. I don't
think there was anything I didn't do.
The Ai bless wanted me to go deeper but Windows had locked the OS
and I needed a key to access Safe Mode. But without internet it
was all getting very tricky as I was troubled that using the Win10
machine would trigger a process thinking that was the computer I
was having a problem with. Without going much deeper and rebuilding
the OS from the ground up there was little chance of getting the
Ethernet or WiFi working.
In simple terms I furked the OS up and Windows has locked me out
securing the OS from a suspected breach. I have no internet so I
cannot work on the Win11 system. All roads lead to an internet
hook up with MS and I get the 'no internet notification.
Anyway I have given up for now. I guess it becomes a future
project. The extended hot summer has made me start thinking about
a laptop so I can sit down stairs in the cool during heat waves
and surf the web etc. Dunno... not a fan.
I have to say I found the Google Ai very entertaining. I know it
is just an Ai but it does give the feel of someone interacting
with you. The continuation of the discussion is really helpful.
When we finished it wished me well and invited me back if I wanted
to unearth my locked OS. Maybe another day.
One last comment and that is regarding the Windows OS. They really
do need to go back to the drawing board and establish just what
the hell they are trying to achieve. The OS should be for PC users
and the interface a very simple start button find system and just
let us do all our own work from a couple of open windows. By now
users know how to get around the filing system. For goodness sake
less of the 'apps' and more of the common sense. It ain't difficult.
