Entry 16th September 2026: Post 1: Amiga 600 - Classic 2.1 and 4MB RAM card
Amiga 600 - Classic 2.1 and 4MB RAM card
I have never held the view that RAM is everything. In order of my
own preferences for a useful Amiga I would place an A1200 top of
the list, then a hard drive, next an accelerator and finally RAM.
Sadly the A600 fails on most counts worse is that I have never
been able to acquire a classic accelerator.
Today I just wanted to demonstrate the benefit of the PCMCIA slot.
I have a CF card fitted to this A600 running Classic 2.1. It also
has version WHDload18.2 for what it is worth. To be truthful I
cannot recall the reason why I purchased the CF card. I have never
used the A600 since it was fitted.
Yesterday I showed off the Samsung monitor and today I teamed it
up with an Amiga 600 to demonstrate the Amitek 4MB PCMCIA card.
I first show the A600 without the card installed and it shows
the 1MB CHIP fitted to the basic Amiga 600 plus a further 1MB
via a trap door expansion card. I then plug in the 4MB PCMCIA
and like magic we now have 2MB CHIP and 4MB FAST .. very useful
if you are planning using the A600 for anything. Sadly still
slower than a slow thing with a very good reason for being slow
and so I bagged her up and put her back on her shelf.
That was all.
