ScuzzBlog: Diaries September 2026 Entry 30th September 2026: Post 1: Amiga 1200 floppy clean - with second GVP Turbo. Amiga 1200 floppy clean - with second GVP Turbo. You didn't think I had just the one GVP Turbo. Not on your life. Today I ventured back to the 1200 that caused the kerfuffle due to a faulty floppy drive. If you recall I had swapped the A1200 over cus it was failing to read disks. Just so happens it too had a GVP Turbo. Note just the one memory stick. This Frankenstein of a 1200 is my bread and butter ADF beast that uses the Surf Squirrel. It has a traditional Commodore base section and an Escom upper section. Don't ask. It was once part of a tower project in another life. I got it off Amibench. The computer has an external IBM 3.5" drive with the ribbon and power fed through the rear. The drive sits outside the A1200. Mad I know but hey, doesn't bother me. And yes this computer has my second GVP Turbo and this one is working. It even keeps the right time. Sadly the floppy was refusing to read disks so I needed to execute a deep clean. I removed the drive with the intention of cleaning in front of the camera. Sadly these drives have two little screws to the rear corner that I couldn't remove. So I retired to the lounge table to extract the screws. I wasn't able to record in the lounge and so you will have to imagine what I did. The inside of the drive was caked with dust and I sense each time I inserted a disk it was setting off a dust cloud. Took me a while to clean. I reconnected to a Microvitec in the Workshop and pulled 3 Clara 3n21 tools disks. I carry these disks with me when I'm checking machines as they carry most of my most used progs and files. You can always tell a 3n21 tools disk from Clara on the disk image. Anyhoo all three disks were recognised by the floppy drive and also DOpus. Dopus also picked up the date and time from the GVP plus the extra memory. Pretty cool. So the A1200 that started the little fracas is saved to do its job again and I can return to creating my ADF files for the emulator. Happy days !! Amiga 1200 floppy clean - with second GVP Turbo.
